Rawls alumnus Roshi Muns (MBA – 1999) is about to open the second location of her award-winning Society Bakery in Dallas, Texas. The first was established in 2003 on Greenville and McCommas in Dallas, and the second will be located in the main atrium within the Medical City Hospital at 7777 Forest Lane.
What sets this bakery apart from others is its desire to help society. Muns donates to over 80 charities, schools, churches, and non-profits each year without taking a tax write off. The bakery’s outlook is to strive to be profitable and charitable at the same time. The bakery donates to The American Cancer Society, Red Cross, Greater Dallas Boys and Girls Club, and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The bakery has won many awards for its wedding cakes, cookies, cupcakes and specialty treats. It was voted “Top 10 cupcakes in America” by the Ellen DeGeneres show. For 2009-2010, it was voted “Best Family Bakery” by Dallas Child Magazine, “Best Desert” by the Dallas Citysearch. Recently, Society Bakery was asked by Rachael Ray’s producers to ship them some sweets so they could possibly pick Society Bakery for their snack of the day segment.
The anticipated opening of the new bakery is December of 2009 or January of 2010.
